Homeowner Chad Jones shared the video on his Instagram on February 18, and it’s now become viral. In a comment, Jones said the fridge was worth $4,200 and joked about the accident. “This was an LG refrigerator and it was around $4,200. Luckily, we kept our old fridge!” he said, as reported by ABC 7.
While delivering a new fridge to the family, a clumsy delivery man smashed the entire fridge on the ground, and it resulted in a mess, with drawers, shelves and even an unhinged door cascading onto the driveway.
The clip, which was shared by ABC News on Twitter, follows the delivery man as he wheels the fridge up the driveway on a dolly. When he tries to rest, he sets the fridge down. But he does so at a bad angle, and the fridge falls door-side onto the concrete driveway. Before the fridge even hits the ground, the man can be seen expressing horror and disbelief.
Though he tried to stop the fridge from falling, the man clearly knew the result wouldn’t be good. His hands rose to his head, while his delivery partner, who was still near their rented Penske truck, skipped up the driveway. With frustration, the second delivery man responds, “God, why wouldn’t you wait, bro? Don’t we wait and stick together, bro?
The team attempts to lift the fridge back onto the dolly, but it’s clear the mangled appliance will probably need to be replaced. That, or some extreme repairs will be required.
The movers do not work for Penske, the truck rental company confirmed to ABC 7. Instead, they’re with an unnamed delivery company in the Ohio area and appeared to have rented the Penske trunk for the fridge delivery.
While it’s not a fun experience for the delivery drivers or for the Jones family, the video has become internet entertainment for viewers. The cringe factor appeared to hit most viewers who commented on ABC 7’s report via Twitter. “my god the fridge was so young. my prayers,” wrote @alfredtuvy.
Some commented on the company as a whole. “These guys clearly were never trained on how to do this correctly and were not using the right equipment!” explained @Giants7227. “Appliance dollys [sic] come with a built in strap. Hope this guy did not get fired, especially if this is how he was trained.”
Many also commented with respect for the delivery men, who, while upset, acted with grace in the face of appliance disaster. “I give these delivery gentlemen major props, I would have cursed like sailors on shore leave if I had inadvertently damage SOMEONE ELSE’S REFRIGERATOR!!!!!!!” @JayPealer claimed.
