One artist has done just that with the original starting Pokemon. Pokemon Red and Blue, as well as the third entry in the series’ first generation, Pokemon Yellow, introduced gamers to the first pocket monsters that they would ever see in a game. The artist mixed these starting four with one of the biggest and most revered fighting game franchises ever.

An artist going by the handle pilehh combined Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander, and Pikachu with four of the ninjas from Mortal Kombat. In the art, Bulbasaur is dressed as Reptile, Squirtle is mixed with Sub-Zero, Charmander gets combined with Ermac, and Pikachu becomes Scorpion. In the piece it can be seen that pilehh added little details to each Pokemon, such as the fire on Charmander’s tail being green in order to mirror Ermac’s powers.

The Pokemon drawing that pilehh did has received a number of fans. They like the look that the artist gave every Pokemon, finding the piece to be really cute and awesome. One stated that they now want the artwork on a shirt, while another said that they now have a new background for their phone. There was a commenter who mentioned that Charmander should be Scorpion instead of Pikachu, as Scorpion has fire-based powers. However, pilehh did state that they matched the Pokemon to their respective ninjas by color scheme, not powers. The artwork is quite impressive and adorable and is a great homage to two of the greatest video game franchises ever released.

The piece that pilehh drew is not the only artwork mixing together Pokemon with other video game series. An artist going by the name bromojumbo mixed the Pokemon Sinistea and Polteageist with the Pot Friend from Elden Ring. The two Ghost-Type pocket monsters had their teacup and kettle designs changed to fit in more with the colors and patterns that are seen on the Pot Friends. More cracks and holes were added to the pots of Sinistea and Polteageist in order to align with their designs in Pokemon Sword and Shield, while the spiral design that circles around the upper edge of the Pot Friends was also changed to glyphs. The two pocket monsters and the characters from Elden Ring are a perfect fit together and led to a great crossover.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will release for Nintendo Switch in 2022.
