For the uninitiated, while the update 1.04 patch notes may appear unsubstantial, with bugs like GTA 3’s vehicle taillights not working during nighttime still persisting, countless individual problems and visual hitches have now been ironed out. This includes issues like Vice City’s glaring Rockstar Games Logo mess up and depth of field withdrawal.

Fortunately, here to help those struggling to recognise any of update 1.04 latest additions, Reddit user FarCrySis123 has posted a collection of in-game screenshots that analyse and compare some of the patches’ most major map changes. The locations featured in the gallery focus on Vice City’s sandy beaches and new upper-class residents, all areas that put heavy emphasis on GTA: Vice City’s colorful 1980s setting.

As seen in the comparison above, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City’s towering properties and structures certainly went under re-evaluation in update 1.04. Now, instead of the skyline being invaded with enormous dull constructions, the exterior textures have been touched up with the GTA trilogy’s added volumetric lighting, which manages to pump a sense of life into Vice City’s metropolitan atmosphere.

Infamously, the GTA Trilogy’s removal of the draw distance was one modern inclusion that rightfully ticked off the community as it resulted in the maps feeling underwhelmingly scarce. Luckily, this outrage did not fall on deaf ears as developers Grove Street Games made sure to address it. Visible in both of the comparisons above, clouds and fog now loom in the distance. Although this incorporation seems slightly old-fashioned, the present outcome gives a well-needed depth of field to Vice City.

In short, with the post’s reply section filled with users voicing their growing concern regarding how the game still “looks about a year off being ready,” GTA: Vice City’s update 1.04 mostly brought about quality of life improvements rather than anything hugely significant. With that said, hopefully, this update is just one of many and that the more egregious blunders will be addressed in an upcoming instalment.
