With all the announcements Bungie made leading up to Warmind’s release, it’s easy to think that there wouldn’t be any surprises waiting for eager Guardians once they got their chance to dig into it. This has turned out not to be the case. In addition to the already announced content like Escalation Protocol, Warmind has at least a few hidden goodies for players to uncover. One such treat is the return of what is arguably one of post-Taken King Destiny’s best and most sought-after weapons: the Sleeper Simulant.
As seen in the above tweet, the discovery was made by a player who goes by the handle “LaB” on Twitter when they unlocked the exotic fusion rifle’s “Hypnopompic” exotic weapon ornament. They did not provide details regarding how they acquired the ornament. Considering what it is, though, it can be reasonably surmised that it came to them through the Eververse – more than likely as a normal Bright Engram drop or perhaps even via the Warmind expansion’s new Prismatic Matrix loot item.
Weapon ornaments and the means of their acquisition aside, the Sleeper Simulant is finally back! It’s kind of surprising that Bungie didn’t use the weapon to advertise their new expansion. Back in the days leading up to The Taken King expansion for Destiny 1, the gun was featured heavily in pre-release trailers. Players knew it was coming, but they just didn’t know when or how to get it. This time, the heavy fusion rifle didn’t show up in any of the pre-release media, not even in the Warmind launch trailer. It’s a missed marketing opportunity, but good for the expansion overall since the weapon’s existence serves as a hint that there might just be more to Warmind than initially thought.
Warmind likely isn’t the game changer that will bring long-absent Guardians back to Destiny 2, but it is still an important piece of content. The fall expansion will likely make or break Destiny 2 and it’s extra content like this that will keep fans around, while enabling others to take Bungie’s announcements for Destiny 2’s next expansion and its new FPS mode seriously.
Destiny 2: Warmind is currently available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
