While developer Bungie may have put these moments in the game to provide a change of pace from the heart-thumping action, one Destiny 2 fan thinks that they could be scenes from a scary movie. Just in time for Halloween, a player named Legoleflash has created a Destiny 2 horror movie trailer. The trailer includes footage of the Utopia mission on Titan, Legoleflash explains, putting the mission’s most unsettling moments into a video that will put shivers down spines.
Best enjoyed with headphones on, the trailer follows a Guardian’s deep descent into dark territory. The Hive habitat pulses and squirms and the game’s chasms and corridors are so silent, it’s as though something is lulling player’s into a false sense of security. Maybe it lays in wait or lurks around a corner, ready to pounce, tearing the Guardian to shreds before they can even activate their super.
The horror movie trailer is pretty convincing as an homage to the Alien movie series, it even gives off a Stranger Things vibe too. Legoleflash adds that The Festering Halls “screams of that atmosphere at almost every angle,” as the Destiny 2 fan is convinced that Bungie purposefully designed it as an homage to the Ridley Scott-directed series.
Though some fans will be wondering why Bungie didn’t lean into that Alien inspiration even more. Fans were already convinced that there was a sea monster living on Titan and some were actually disappointed to learn that the game’s ‘Leviathan’ referred to the Leviathan Raid, and not some ancient, aquatic foe. It highlights that Destiny 2 players aren’t just desperate for bombastic activities they can complete with their fireteams, but they’re also interested in solo scarefests that will leave them terrified.
Bungie has already vowed to address the end-game problems with its game, including overhauling the Destiny 2 rewards system. It shows that the developer is listening and is willing to make changes based on that criticism. And although it is already working on other end-game content (such as the Osiris DLC), some sort of horror-themed mission would be welcomed by fans. On Titan, fireteams no on can hear Guardians scream, but hopefully, Bungie will hear the fan feedback.
