SPLITS TO KNOW

  • Aramis Ramirez  (10-for-27, 4 extra-base hits) and  Ryan Braun  (15-for-28, 5 doubles, HR) have killed the ball against  Jason Marquis .

-  Jimmy Rollins  (7-for-38, 10 Ks) and  Adrian Gonzalez  (15-for-61, no extra-base hits, 17 Ks) have struggled against  Tim Lincecum  in their careers.

-  Nick Markakis  is 8-for-22 with a pair of doubles and a homer lifetime against  Doug Fister .

-  Joe Mauer  (5-for-27) and  Danny Santana  (3-for-16, 8 Ks) have both struggled in their careers against  David Price . Teammate  Oswaldo Arcia  is 0-for-6 with four Ks and is likely to be out of the lineup against the Cy Young lefty.

  • Yes, it’s only five at-bats, but  Nelson Cruz  is batting 1.000 with two HRs lifetime against  Yovani Gallardo . Teammate  Seth Smith  (2-for-20, 6 Ks) hasn’t fared nearly as well.

  • More small sample sizes:  Alejandro De Aza  (5-for-8) and  Adam Jones  (6-for-10, 2 HRs) have hit  Hector Noesi  hard. 

-  Corey Kluber  has owned the majority of the Royals’ lineup.  Alex Gordon  (4-for-25, 10 Ks),  Eric Hosmer  (4-for-25, 6 Ks),  Alcides Escobar  (5-for-25, 10 Ks),  Lorenzo Cain  (2-for-15) and  Salvador Perez  (2-for-16, 6 Ks) are hitting a combined .160 against the Indians’ ace.  Mike Moustakas  (8-for-21, 4 doubles, HR) is the only Royal with any real success against Kluber.

-  Jason Heyward  is just 7-for-32 with eight Ks in his career against  Cole Hamels .

CALL TO THE ‘PEN

Cleveland’s  Cody Allen  struggled again, allowing two hits, a walk, and a run against the Tigers. To be fair, the first hit was an infield single, but he’s issued a walk in five of seven appearances and allowed at least one run in three outings. Allen’s leash is likely getting shorter, so it’s not a bad idea to grab  Bryan Shaw  off your waiver wire. …  Neftali Feliz  threw 38 pitches during a two-inning out on Sunday. Expect to see someone else – possibly  Tanner Scheppers  – if the Rangers are in a save situation on Monday.

WEATHER WATCH

There could be a few delays along the East Coast today. The  Blue Jays-Red Sox  game is the most likely to see rain (62 percent), but the Rays-Yankees  (51) and  White Sox-Orioles  (41) could also see showers. There’s also a 61-percent chance of rain in Arlington for the  Mariners-Rangers .
