Both Turner and Bichette are likely to be first-round picks, and the rest of the early rounds should each feature at least one or two shortstops. Like 2B, it’s a position that offers major contributors in every category, whether you want one of those aforementioned five-category guys early or choose to wait for more of a specialist a little later.
DOMINATE YOUR DRAFT: Fantasy Alarm Ultimate Draft Guide
No infield position offers more SB options than SS, and even though that category isn’t as robust as it used to be, it’s still important to get some guys who steal 15-plus bases. Fortunately, you can find those guys throughout SS, and it’s possible they provide decent pop, too. Whether you want to spend up a bit for Javier Baez or a bounce-back candidate like Gleyber Torres, wait for guys like Jazz Chisholm or Isiah Kiner-Falefa, or just skip the power altogether and get Nicky Lopez late, you have speed options.
There’s really no excuse other than injury for having an unproductive SS throughout the season. That doesn’t mean you need one of the five-category stars (though it sure is nice), but you should definitely be able to find a player who fills a need or two.
